This volume contains the 1886 memoirs of William B. Westervelt's four years in the Union Army during the Civil War. It covers traveling west, chasing Nathan Bedford Forrest, Sherman's campaigns, and the Grand Review. The narrative has been kept intact, but chapters have been grouped or split to correspond to the various campaigns discussed. Each chapter includes a modern introduction to provide background information to the campaigns.
